Eduardo Carreon Galvan, affectionately known as ‘Eddie’ passed away on December 20, 2024, in Pasadena, California. Born on July 6, 1968, in Mexico City, Mexico, Eduardo lived a life rich with friendships and meaningful connections across Texas, San Francisco, and Los Angeles, where he ultimately called home for the past 23 years.
Eduardo’s journey was marked by a dedication to his craft in the hospitality industry. Known for his warm demeanor and skill as a server, he brought joy to countless guests in restaurants specializing in Italian cuisine. During his years in San Francisco, Eduardo formed lifelong friendships with Jesus, Mario, and Cesar. Upon moving to Los Angeles following the birth of his daughter Samantha, he joined the team at Il Fornaio, where he spent a decade forging bonds with colleagues like Juanito, Vicente, Gabriela, and Celia. His final notable role was at Spaghettini before his health began to decline.
Eduardo was not a man who merely enjoyed the simple things—he had a refined palate and an eye for detail and hospitality, shaped by his years as a server. He was the strictest critic of food and service, always teaching his daughters how gauche it was to take “to-go boxes” and good-naturedly critiquing those who asked for them. His humor shone through in unexpected moments, like when guests at the restaurant removed their shoes at the dinner table; Eddie would quietly kick them under the table, reveling in the hilarity of watching them search for their shoes.
His favorite phrase, "Tu no te preocupes!" embodied his ability to put others at ease. He was a passionate fan of Club América soccer, found joy in the music of The Beatles, Luis Miguel, and Selena Quintanilla. His favorite travels included trips to Hawaii, Las Vegas and the streets of San Francisco, where he often got lost for not asking for directions! He appreciated the finer things, from a classic Corona to a glass of Dolce Farniente, and a slice of margherita pizza or lamb chops with a side of prosciutto wrapped cantaloupe.
Eduardo’s friends and colleagues spoke highly of his kindness, generosity, humor, and work ethic. He had a way of leaving an impression on those he met, creating a legacy of camaraderie and respect in every space he occupied. Eduardo is survived by his three children, Yahaira Carreon, Samantha Carreon and Ericka Mejia, who will carry forward his memory and love of life and good food. His cherished friends, many of whom became like family; and extended family members who admired his kind spirit. A private memorial will be held at a later date to honor Eduardo’s life.
