It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Eric Bart Lauterstein on December 5, 2024, in Santa Monica, California, at the age of 70. Eric was born on September 4, 1954, in New York City, Eric was a creative and generous soul who touched countless lives through his art and acts of kindness.

A talented Scenic Artist and Set Painter, Eric’s work graced iconic films and television productions, including The Pelican Brief, Heat, Goodfellas, When Harry Met Sally, Pirates of the Caribbean, and many others. His creativity and dedication left a lasting legacy in the entertainment industry.

Outside of his professional life, Eric was passionate about painting, yoga, and spending time with his beloved dogs, often enjoying peaceful moments by the pool. A private yet mischievous spirit, he always kept those close to him on their toes with his humor and wit. His generosity was unmatched—whether helping family, friends, or strangers, Eric’s kindness left an indelible mark on everyone he met.

Eric was deeply proud of his home and his community in Santa Monica. He devoted much of his time to supporting local nonprofits, including volunteering with children at the Santa Monica Aquarium and delivering meals through Meals on Wheels to those in need. He also found great joy in rescuing and caring for his last two dogs from local shelters, giving them a loving home.

Eric’s legacy is one of creativity, kindness, and unwavering support for those he loved. He will be remembered for his artistic contributions to the movie industry, his love for animals, and his deep affection for his family, especially his nephew, Dennis.

He is survived by his sister, Susan Stein; his nephew, Dennis Stein (wife Cheryl and children Watson and Kya); and his nephew, Michael Stein and family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bella and Manny Lauterstein, and his brother, Leon Rubenstein.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the summer of 2025 to honor Eric’s legacy and the joy he brought to so many.
