In Loving Memory of George Rosario Sicam
George is survived by his eldest daughter Christienne Iris Sicam, his son Christopher James Sicam, and former wife Maria Rowena Rayos Sicam. George was a devoted father who got enjoyment from showing family new sights. George proudly served as a postman in the Bay Area, where he was a committed worker, dedicating 35 years to serving the East Bay community around El Cerrito. Rain, shine, or snow, my dad carried letters & he had a lot of fans. My father taught me to play basketball, hoping I would one day be one of the first Filipino American basketball players in the NBA. He also wanted me to play guitar, something he never did. Although I attempted to fulfill some of my dad's dreams that he had as a youth, I followed my own internal voice of studying design. He eventually told me he was proud of my accomplishments, even though they were very different from what he had envisioned for me. My father marched to his own drum, and he didn't like taking advice from authority figures. He got enjoyment from finding a random manmade lake to go to before Google Maps existed, as he loved staring at large paper maps on the dining room table for a pastime. He was a critical thinker, and also loved cars, especially Japanese cars which are known to have a long life-span. My dad was a family man who loved spending time with his family, doing simple things like going to the flea market or Chinatown to get a good deal on some cheap socks or goods. Even though my dad could afford higher quality products, he was always thrilled to score a deal and bargain for items. May his legacy remind us to enjoy little moments, to remember that being happy & content doesn't necessarily cost a lot of money, and to make time for your loved ones enjoying a good home-cooked meal at home.
