Marilyn Jane Fry passed away suddenly on November 1, 2024. Marilyn was born in Inwood, Iowa on May 23, 1943 to Olaf and Agnes (Eiesland) Sorenson. The youngest of four children, she grew up on the Sorenson family farm and graduated from West Lyon High School. She attended State College of Iowa in Cedar Falls where she graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in junior high school education in 1966. Her first teaching job was as an English teacher in Huntington Beach, California.
Soon after moving to California she met Robert “Mike” Fry and they wed on August 15, 1970 before settling in Torrance where they recently celebrated their 54th anniversary. Marilyn spent the majority of her career teaching English and ESL at Tetzlaff Middle School in Cerritos.
Marilyn loved time with friends and family, of which she had many. She traveled the world including China, Korea, and Norway and loved summers visiting family and going to “the lake” as well as time spent at their mountain cabin. She was an avid reader and collector of books, a gardener, golfer and never passed up an opportunity to shop! Marilyn’s bright smile and infectious, positive attitude will not be forgotten.
