February 4, 1954 – March 29, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Michael Swaby, a beloved father, artist, and storyteller, who departed this world on March 29, 2025, due to medical complications at Kindred Hospital Paramount.

Born on February 4, 1954, in Kingston, Jamaica, Michael was a proud Jamaican man with a deep appreciation for his African heritage and black culture. He was a vibrant soul, a social butterfly who found joy in meaningful conversations, sharing stories, and building connections wherever he went. His passion for knowledge and learning was unmatched, and he made it his mission to educate those around him, especially his family, on their roots and cultural history.

Michael was a gifted artist who expressed his creativity through painting and design. As a painter for over 30 years, he mastered the art of creating unique effects such as textured and marbled walls, leaving his mark in countless projects. He also explored digital art, using Adobe Photoshop to bring his visions to life. His love for art extended beyond his own work—he found joy in teaching and inspiring others through creativity.

Among his greatest accomplishments was his journey to America, where he built a life for himself and his family. He was a devoted father to three accomplished children: Adeola Swaby, Babatunde Swaby, and Shakeela Swaby. His legacy lives on in them, as well as in the many lives he touched through his art and wisdom.

Michael is survived by his ex-wife, Lileith Brown Swaby, and his children, who will forever cherish his love, guidance, and unwavering support. He is preceded in death by his father, Noel Swaby, his brother Noel Swaby Jr., his sister Sandra Swaby, and another brother whose name is unknown.

He will be remembered for his boundless creativity, his love for music and food, his unwavering dedication to his cultural heritage, and his ability to bring people together. His warmth, humor, and artistic spirit will be deeply missed but will continue to inspire those who knew and loved him.

Rest in power, Michael Swaby. Your light will never fade.
