Peter G. Anderson, beloved husband, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on October 30, 2024, in Los Angeles, California, after a courageous battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Born on April 11, 1949, in Naugatuck, Connecticut, Peter lived a remarkable life filled with creativity, compassion, and love.
Peter's career was as diverse as it was meaningful. He began in theater as a stage manager, later transitioned into the burgeoning home video industry as a video transfer technician, and ultimately served as a distribution executive at MGM/UA Home Video, where he helped shape the way classic films reached audiences worldwide. In his 50s, Peter embarked on a new chapter, becoming a family nurse practitioner focused on the care of HIV/AIDS patients during the height of the epidemic. His work in both the arts and healthcare embodied his deep compassion and tireless dedication to improving the lives of others.
A man of many passions, Peter cherished his family, friends, and chosen family. He delighted in traveling, running, dancing, gardening, and creating a welcoming and comforting environment around his home. He brought intuition, meticulous care, and a creative spark to every endeavor, balancing a gregarious and social nature with a meticulous attention to detail, particularly when it came to financial matters.
Peter was very proud of his contributions to theater and film, his commitment to his patients, and his lifelong role as a loving and supportive family member. His greatest joy was in the love he shared with his husband, whom he spent 32 cherished years with, facing life’s challenges with an unbreakable bond of affection.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Betty Anderson, as well as many dear friends and patients lost to HIV/AIDS in the 1980s and 1990s. Peter is survived by his devoted husband of 11 years, his sister and brother-in-law, their three children and six grandchildren, as well as a wide circle of chosen family and their children who loved him deeply.
Peter will be remembered as a supportive, loving person, known for his mother’s fitting words: "He’s so damn smart!" His kindness, strength, and ability to bring people together will leave an indelible mark on all who knew him.
A memorial gathering will be held after the New Year to celebrate Peter’s life.
Rest in peace, Peter. You are deeply loved and missed.
