Stephen G. Oxley Obituary

March 10, 1940 – April 3, 2025

Stephen G. Oxley, a beloved brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on April 3, 2025, in Inglewood, California. He was 85 years old.

Born in Lincoln, Nebraska, on March 10, 1940, Steve lived a life full of quiet wisdom, gentle humor, and unwavering kindness. He spent over five decades working as a systems engineer at Hughes Aircraft—a career he was deeply dedicated to and proud of. Over the years, Steve was recognized with multiple distinguished service awards, a testament to the professionalism, brilliance, and steady work ethic that defined his time there. But even more than the accolades, Steve valued the relationships he built and the satisfaction of solving complex problems in a field he loved.

Outside of his work, Steve had a lifelong passion for reading and crossword puzzles. There wasn’t a day he didn’t have a book close by or a crossword in progress. These quiet joys reflected who he was—thoughtful, curious, and always eager to learn. Conversations with Steve could range from clever wordplay to thoughtful insights, always sprinkled with his signature wit and warmth.

Steve had a wonderful sense of humor that put people at ease. He was the kind of person who never raised his voice or spoke ill of anyone. He had a natural ability to see the good in people and situations, and his presence brought calm and lightness to those around him. He lived his life with humility and grace, never seeking the spotlight but always making a difference in quiet, meaningful ways.

He was especially proud of his family—his niece and nephews held a special place in his heart, and he followed their lives and accomplishments with quiet pride and genuine joy. He loved being part of their world and was always there with encouragement, support, or a good laugh when it was needed.

Steve is survived by his loving sister MaryJo and her husband Terry Warren; nephews Trevor (Sarah) Warren and Matt (Elizabeth) Warren; great-nephews and a great-niece; and many other family members and close friends who will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Estella Oxley.

A memorial service will be held at a later date, and Steve will be laid to rest at Pleasant Dale Cemetery in Pleasant Dale, Nebraska—a peaceful resting place close to his roots.

He will be missed deeply and remembered always—with love, gratitude, and the warmest memories.
